07/27/2010 - Cleveland, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Josh Tomlin pitched into the eighth inning in his major league debut and bested former Indians ace CC Sabathia in a 4-1 Indians win against the Yankees.
Tomlin was recalled from Triple-A Columbus Tuesday to make the start for an injured Aaron Laffey and baffled the Bombers over seven-plus innings. He scattered three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out two.
The young right-hander was charged with a run in the eighth after surrendering a leadoff double to Robinson Cano and giving way to Cleveland's bullpen. He faced the minimum amount of batters through six innings.
Tomlin was 8-4 with a 2.68 earned run average in 20 games -- 17 starts -- for the Clippers this season.
In his minor league career, Tomlin, a 19th-round pick by the Indians in 2006, is 51-24 with a 3.20 ERA in 134 games, including 87 starts.
To make room on the 25-man roster, Cleveland optioned outfielder Michael Brantley to Columbus. He was batting .157 with a homer and seven RBI in 26 games this season. In addition, the Indians designated minor league infielder Wes Hodges for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
